Agave Health Benefits
Agave Nectar is relatively low glycemic compared to other sugars and sweeteners. The low glycemic index of agave nectar means that it is less disruptive to blood sugar levels. For this reason, many diabetics have found agave nectar more suitable for their sweetening needs. Our agave nectar was tested with human subjects at the Glycemic Index Laboratories. Test results indicated a Glycemic Index (GI) in the range of 32. Also, the Glycemic Load may be a more accurate indicator, as it accounts for portion size. A one tablespoon serving of agave nectar has a glycemic load of 5.12. The purity of agave nectar is also valuable. Many people on special diets find agave suitable for their needs, as it is natural, organic, gluten and allergen free. As with all sweeteners, consumption should be moderate. Agave nectar is sweeter than sugar, so less can be used for equal sweetening. Use only 66% the amount of agave to equal the sweetness of sugar, and 80% to equal the sweetness of honey. This conversion will save you from consuming excess calories.
